Artist Marianne Vitale Honored at Austin Critics Table Awards

Congratulations to our curatorial staff and Marianne Vitale, whose Common Crossings sculptural installation at Laguna Gloria won the "Best Work of Art: Installation" honor at this year's Austin Critics Table Awards. In Vitale's large-scale sculptures, found materials such as reclaimed barn lumber, unused railroad tracks, and beams from abandoned factories undergo simple but transformative processes and actions to result in ruggedly visual sculptures that are uneasy monuments to American history and industry. Part of the artist's solo exhibition for The Contemporary Austin in fall 2013, Common Crossings can be viewed at the Betty and Edward Marcus Sculpture Park at Laguna Gloria.
