Would your meetings be different if they were held at an art museum? From March 20 to July 21, The Contemporary Austin invites you to relocate your conference room, group discussions, book clubs, and team retreats to our gallery space. A unique meeting space will be available for reservation within the vibrant context of Lubaina Himid: Make Do and Mend.
This special opportunity to gather at a table designed by the artist within the Jones Center’s first floor gallery is inspired by Himid’s new body of work, Strategy Paintings, which depicts figures seated around tables. Each painting imagines the act of solving a problem left open to interpretation. With the Jones Center’s location just a few blocks from the Texas State Capitol, these paintings prompt us to reflect on the people in power who make decisions from afar and how context affects the decisions that are made. We invite museum visitors to stage and extend their own conversations (up to 20 attendees) within the exhibition itself, fostering community engagement and reflection on the dynamics of decision making. We encourage groups or individuals interested in participating to fill out the reservation request form. If not reserved, this area is open for museum visitors to use.
Reserving the table
Please note all reservations are subject to review and must be approved. Once the reservation is confirmed, museum staff will contact you with additional details. Admitted groups will enjoy complimentary admission to The Contemporary Austin – Jones Center. We invite you to explore the exhibition before and after your reserved meeting time.
Please note that the museum galleries will be open to the public during your selected time.
