The Drift-In Theater Series presents films to Contemporary Austin Members in Laguna Gloria’s scenic, secluded lagoon. Watercraft both large and small are invited to anchor at sunset and enjoy this unique opportunity to experience The Contemporary Austin by water.
"Let the wild rumpus start!" Nine-year-old Max runs away from home and sails across the sea to become the king of the land Where the Wild Things Are. King Max rules a wondrous realm of gigantic fuzzy monsters—but being a king may not be as carefree as it looks!
Filmmaker Spike Jonze directs Where the Wild Things Are, a magical, visually astonishing film version of Maurice Sendak’s celebrated children’s classic, starring an amazing cast of screen veterans and featuring young Max Records in a fierce and sensitive performance as Max. (2009, 101 min.)
Lagoon opens at 6:30P, Film begins at 7:30P.
Please launch your boat from, and return your boat to, the Public Dock at 1600 Scenic Drive, Austin, TX 78723, a two-minute walk from Hula Hut and a fifteen-minute motorized ride to the Laguna Gloria Lagoon. There are no boat launching facilities at Laguna Gloria.
BYOB and picnics are welcome!
Portable audio is available for all watercraft.
Tickets are available for purchase by all Contemporary Austin Members only. (Not a Member? Join today to drift with us, or simply "Add a Membership" when purchasing your ticket! Membership starts at $35 annually.)
Ticket price includes admission for 1 watercraft (either owned by ticket purchaser or rented separately) + all guests on board. Ticket availability is limited, so please purchase early.
Large watercraft include motorized boats. Small watercraft include canoes, kayaks, and rowboats.

Looking for a boat to float you to the Drift-In Theater?
For ticketed guests without their own watercraft who would like to attend, a limited number of pontoon boats will be available for the evening at a 25–75 percent discounted rate of $350 per boat with a captain for up to four hours, courtesy of our sponsor Float On Boat Rentals.
Boats will be rented on a first-come, first-serve basis, and tip for the captain is not included in the rental rate. Tickets to the Drift-In Theater event must be purchased separately.
