testsite: 502 West 33rd Street, Austin, Texas

testsite situates itself between an exhibition space, an open studio, a temporary residency program, and a private home. Artists Janine Antoni and Stephen Petronio share their fruitful collaborations integrating sculpture and dance.

incubator began with the artists’ first visual collaboration, Honey Baby, a video of a folding, tumbling body in a honey-filled environment. Through an aesthetically aligned approach, Antoni and Petronio explore states of physical intensity, unleashing visceral and emotional responses. Since then, their projects have integrated sculpture, dance, and their own images to create odd character couplings.

Looking forward, the artists will continue to blur their body-focused disciplines on a deeper and extended scale within the space of The Contemporary Austin. Here, they capture the movement and objects left behind by their particular sense of motion.

This collaboration is the result of an invitation by Louis Grachos, Executive Director, and Andrea Mellard, Director of Public Programs and Community Engagement, The Contemporary Austin.

Support: This project is co-sponsored by testsite and The Contemporary Austin.
