About Emily Bishop

Emily Bishop, a violinist from Seattle, WA, discovered her love for the instrument at the tender age of four. She has achieved notable success, winning prizes in competitions such as the Marjorie Easley Concerto Competition and the Oklahoma Community Orchestra’s Young Artist Competition. With a strong educational background, Emily attended the Interlochen Arts Academy as an Endowed Scholar. She holds a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Violin Performance from the University of Washington and the University of Oklahoma, respectively. Emily is a former member of the Wichita Symphony Orchestra and has regularly performed with numerous Symphonies, Chamber Orchestras, Ballets, and Operas throughout her professional career. Alongside her performing career, she has recently been working with a local program, KING, to provide private instrumental lessons to children that have gone through the foster program. Emily’s passion extends to recording for contemporary composers and collaborating on projects that explore new music. With her captivating performances as a soloist and chamber musician, Emily Bishop continues to share her musical talents with audiences near and far.

About contener

For the first exhibition in the HOST gallery space, located inside the Jones Center, Mexico City-based artist duo Celeste have installed a large textile painting and designed a long, curved bench with the intention of creating an intimate environment, or container, in which performances and other community events can take place.

In response to Celeste’s installation Mario Villanueva, The Contemporary Austin’s Experience and Engagement Manager, created contener as a monthly performance series. In the spirit of gathering to support other artists, contener will feature different musicians every second Wednesday of the month while Celeste’s work is on view. These specially planned monthly events are set to take place inside the exhibition space, creating an intimate experience for participants.

While you’re here, explore the stunning exhibition Eamon Ore-Giron: Competing with Lightning / Rivalizando con el relámpago, also on view at the Jones Center. And be sure to head to the rooftop for an after-hours view of beautiful downtown Austin.
