The Contemporary Austin is pleased to present the 2014 Teen Artist + Mentor Exhibition at Pump Project Art Complex, an East Austin art space. This education initiative of the Advanced Young Artists program pairs ten professional artist-mentors with ten exemplary high school art students. Together, they work collaboratively over seven months in the artist’s studio space. Hours of conversation, exploration of new mediums, and discoveries related to navigating a multigenerational creative experience culminate in this display of the resulting work from all twenty artists. Dynamic new works, from a topographical display reminiscent of contemporary gaming to a kinetic experiment powered by bicycle, fill this East Austin art space. Advanced Young Artists began out of a commitment to provide opportunities to students who have limited access to arts resources. Special thanks to the artists-mentors. Without their dedication and support, this program would not be possible.
