We believe that by including the Art School in The Contemporary’s membership family, we will be better poised to serve you, our students. As a member, you will have access to both of our museum sites for a full year, along with invitations to exhibition openings and curator-led tours, free or discounted tickets to films and other events, and much more—all while supporting the exhibitions and educational programs that are at the core of the museum's mission.

The average student will see little to no increase in total cost—about $5 to $10 at most. Students taking more than one class per year will see their total cost decrease.

This new requirement is not meant to raise revenue for the museum. Our aim is to fold the Art School student community into The Contemporary Austin family in more meaningful ways, inviting you to participate in the breadth of opportunities that the museum provides its members.

The cost associated with this new requirement will be largely offset through the elimination of fees and adjustments to tuition prices. Some of the steps we are taking to make this transition as easy and cost-effective as possible are:

1. We have lowered all tuition levels to match 2019 member pricing—a savings of $15 to $30 per class.
2. All students will receive 20% off all membership levels with coupon code ARTSCHOOL. With the discount, membership will cost as little as $40!
3. We have eliminated the registration fee of $7 per semester, saving you up to $21 per year.
4. Workshops and other short classes will still be open to the public with a 10% discount for members.

Beginning with registration for Spring 2020, we will be eliminating priority registration for Art School classes, which was previously available only to museum members.

As the museum transitions to a membership requirement for all Art School students, the member priority registration period has been eliminated. For the best selection of classes, browse available courses ahead of time, decide which classes you would like to take, and be prepared to use the museum’s improved online registration system as soon as possible once registration begins. Yes. One-day classes, special workshops, and some shorter classes will be exempt from this membership requirement. If a class lists both a non-member and a member tuition in the catalog or online then it is exempt from this requirement. In addition, classes held at partner institutions (such as the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center) will also be exempt. A 10% membership discount will be available for these classes.

All museum membership levels include access to Art School registration for children under 18. Individual members are eligible for registration for one adult and any children in the household under 18. Dual members and above are eligible for registration for everyone in their household.

Yes, but you will see at most a small increase of $5-10 in the total amount you pay since we have adjusted our other fees to accommodate this change.
