This open-studio style weekend workshop will be team-taught by Mark Mitchell, who has worked for many years as an illustrator (and teacher of watercolor classes at the school) and Helen Scaffa, who paints commissioned pet portraits when she's not working as a physical trehab coach at the University Texas.
Imagine a weekend of step-by-step group demos, individual consults, and take-home tutorials filled with brushing and color-mixing techniques for rendering animal attributes such as fur, eyes, noses, ears, fins/ scales, feathers, and beaks.
Helen and Mark will help you select, crop and rearrange from your own visual references to come up with effective compositions, and incorporate the techniques into your project(s.) (Expect to complete one or two animal portraits over the weekend.) Photo references will be provided for those who need them.
Animal subjects are a great way to introduce yourself to the magic of watercolor painting. And universally popular! The portraits make great gifts.
