Art History Roundtable: Bauhaus and the Foundations of Modernism

Spend time connecting with art history and other people. In this class, we’ll immerse ourselves in art historical images and share our own artworks and stories as we build close-looking practices, interpretation, and community.

Let’s deep dive into the role of modern art in early twentieth century society. The Bauhaus school in Germany (1919-1933) merged art, architecture, and design by focusing on hands-on production, open collaboration, and efforts to dissolve traditional boundaries between high and low in art making. We will trace the evolution of Bauhaus artists like Vasily Kandinsky, Anni Albers, and Paul Klee (and many others!) who aimed to design a new world through their ideas, artworks, and utopian visions, which continue to impact artists today.
