Slip casting is a wonderful way to create delicate, consistent ceramic forms. In this hands-on class, you'll be introduced to the exciting world of slip-cast ceramics. Whether you're interested in functional pottery or sculptural work, slip casting offers a wide range of creative possibilities.
Through demonstrations, guided projects, and individual experimentation, you'll develop a solid understanding of the slip-casting process. Learn to create simple one and two-part plaster molds, pour porcelain slip, and cast forms that can be refined, altered, and assembled into either one-of-a-kind pieces or multiples.
We'll explore how repetition, precision, and modular construction can expand your creative practice. Students are encouraged to collaborate, exchange ideas, and experiment with new approaches in a supportive studio environment. Discussions, artist presentations, and images of contemporary ceramics will provide inspiration as we examine how today's artists are using slip casting to create innovative works of art.
Tuition includes guaranteed access to 3 Ceramics Open Studio sessions per registered class. Ceramics Open Studio is an opportunity to practice skills outside class. A sign up sheet will be available when class starts.
Given the complexities of firing, we cannot guarantee student work will be fired in the order in which it was received. Students will be emailed each time the kiln has been fired and unloaded. Because of limited space we can only hold onto finished pieces for three (3) weeks and will discard any unclaimed pieces after the posted date.
