Improv Quilting: Storytelling through Art

Adults

Explore improvisational quilting and hand appliqué through the lens of storytelling. Drawing inspiration from the work of Moki Cherry, on view at The Contemporary Austin – Jones Center beginning in late September, students will create an intuitive quilt top without using patterns. Guided by artist and educator Steph Granillo, participants will explore quilting as a way of thinking, intuitively, playfully, and with intention. Through guided prompts and creative exploration, participants will reflect on themes from their own lives and translate them into fabric. Students will leave with the beginnings of a quilt top, along with the skills and confidence to continue and complete the project at home. Beginners are welcome, and all experience levels are encouraged to join.
