This course invites students to explore the intersection of research, sculpture, and painting by creating an animal-based paper mâché sculpture. Drawing inspiration from Kiki Smith, Joan Brown, Marc Chagall students will examine how animals function as personal, symbolic, and narrative elements in art. Through research, material exploration, and creative play, students will develop an understanding of animal form, movement, and habitat while experimenting with sculptural techniques. The course will encourage intuitive mark-making, surface texture, and an expressive use of color. If time allows, students may create a small 16 x 20-inch painting to complement their sculpture.
