Working Abstractly (online)

Adults

Abstract art is about exploring ideas, emotions, and form through color, line, texture, and composition. In this four-week course, students will learn different strategies artists use to create abstract work, from simplifying real-world subjects to working purely with shape and color. This class welcomes both beginners and experienced artists, and students are encouraged to work in any medium—paint, collage, drawing, mixed media, digital, or a combination.

Each session includes a short demonstration or artist example, guided exercises, and studio work time with individualized feedback. Students will experiment with both structured and intuitive approaches, allowing them to build technical confidence as well as personal expression.

What to expect:

  • Two hours of instruction and demonstrations
  • One hour of optional open studio to put techniques into practice and create abstract art
  • One-on-one instructor feedback
  • Access to class slideshow presentation
  • Recordings of each class session
