BIG BAD Karaoke
Big Bad Karaoke is an artist-led, immersive karaoke series founded and hosted by Alexis Hunter, with co-host Jane Claire Hervey. Created for creatives, by creatives, the event transforms unconventional spaces—like galleries and museums—into vibrant hubs of music, art, and community. After a hit debut during MASS Gallery’s Hot Box Residency and a special Valentine’s Day edition at The Contemporary Austin’s Laguna Gloria, Big Bad Karaoke returns to Laguna Gloria for its third rendition, headlining the museum’s upcoming Summer of Friendship festival.
As an independent recording artist, Jane Claire has composed records and music for global projects since 2012, pulling influences from Björk to Frank Ocean. The daughter of a naturalist, her artistic work is a practice in witnessing, blending sonic landscapes and spoken word with the Gulf Coast tropics, high-brow low-brow musings and reimagined symbols of rodeo queen girlhood. Since putting out her first four-track lo-fi EP “Sour Grapefruit” in 2019, she has opened for the likes of OSHUN, Nomi Ruiz, Bunny Michael, played stages for festivals like South by Southwest (SXSW), run worldwide karaoke tours and composed for an internationally recognized cross-border album. In her professional life, Jane Claire Hervey is a community and brand development director, award-winning curator, creative producer and the accidental founder of Future Front. In 2023, she was featured in New American Paintings, issue no. 168, and was named The Austin Chronicle’s Best Visual Artist of the year. She also teaches painting at The Contemporary Austin’s Art School at Laguna Gloria. You can learn more at Alexishunter.studio
Double or Nothing Two-Step teaches an Austin-specific style of Two-Step call Honky-Tonk Two-Step. Evolved to fit our small local dance floors, this small space dancing is best described as "swing in the style of two-step."
All lessons are taught by born and raised Austinite Vanessa Vaught and friends.
