Get over to the Austin Film Society to catch Mariah Garnett’s Trouble. As part of our current exhibition, the Austin Film Society and The Contemporary are teaming up to present three films that echo the impact of storytelling.
American filmmaker Mariah Garnett travels to Vienna to meet her father David for the first time– he, a former student activist who has lived in exile from his native Belfast for his entire adult life. Garnett then goes to Belfast without David to understand the conditions of his estrangement from family, country and cause; with her own queerness and cross-dressing impersonation of her father as key elements in her inquiry. Presented in partnership with Austin Film Society and our exhibition In A Dream You Saw a Way to Survive and You Were Full of Joy, Sep 18, 2022–January 29, 2023, at The Contemporary Austin’s downtown Jones Center.
